The Bougie Style Home is all the rage in 2023. Pinterest claims it to be one of the top trending topics in the Home Decor sector, so what is it that’s creating such a buzz? We started our last Blog Posting with an in-depth discussion on what Bougie / Boujee actually means. You can read up on that if you choose … Bougie is a Design Style, but WHAT does Bougie (or Boujee) Mean? In this posting, we’re going to take a look at the Boujee Design Style, and more specifically How do I Glam my House Bougie Style?

Throughout this Blog post, I will be showing some of the Bougie Decor items from our online store (we have LOTS). Full disclosure, I do make a small commission on any sales. You do not pay more for the items because of this. The commission is very small and only helps with the costs of running the blog.

Boujee Style - Contrasting Front Door
Boujee Style – Contrasting Front Door

The Boujee Style starts with the Front Door

Go Big or Bo Home is my motto. The Boujee Style Home includes a front door that has a contrasting color to the rest of the home. Other ways to spruce up your front door might be changing out the hardware, cleaning it up, installing new lighting, or buying some new accessories.

Wall Colors Should be Light and Neutral

Neutral wall colors is a good idea no matter what your design style is because it allows you to change up the decor easily. Adding little pops of color will liven things up. Other ways you can make the walls more “Boujee” might be to add crown molding, adding texture to your walls, and adding full-length window treatments are a must.

Use Down-Filled Pillows in the Bedrooms

Boujee has a luxe look about it and flat, shapeless pillows are NOT luxe. Luckily, this is an easy fix. A relatively inexpensive upgrade you can make to your room is to switch out any poly-filled pillows to Down Filled Pillows.

Boujee Style – Adding Texture to the walls

I know down is not for everyone – some people have allergies and there is concern about animal welfare. Down is my personal preference because I think it looks and feels much nicer than synthetic fillers.

Boogie Kitchen – Bright with Layered Lighting

Layer the Kitchen Lighting

A Boujee kitchen is light and bright! Lighting would be layered by using pot lights, island pendants, and under-the-counter lighting. Kitchen Accessories would have an added sense of glam. You’d see lots of white with gold or silver.

Maximize Space and Light with Mirrors

Want to increase your square footage without renovating? Hang a mirror! Of course, the increased space will only be an optical illusion, but hanging a well-placed mirror can truly make a room feel not only bigger but also brighter since it will reflect any light that hits it.

Ideally, you’d be hanging your mirror across from or near to a window in order to bounce as much light around as possible.

Splurge on Focal Pieces

You may not be able to break the bank on every item in your home, but consider splurging on attention-grabbing pieces. For example, a high-quality leather chair or fancy wallpaper on a prominent wall are good ways to spend money strategically. With these elements in place, you can be more budget-conscious with other purchases.

Layer Rugs

Rugs are a cost-effective way to add warmth and style to a room. To create a custom look, layer rugs beneath a furniture grouping. For example, use a large, rectangular sisal rug in a neutral color as the anchor. On top, place an animal print rug or use a series of brightly colored rugs in geometric patterns to create interest.

In closing, I’ll leave you with some of my favorite Bougie Vases. They work great as a stand-alone on your coffee table or console table. Add some candles to the look, your favorite florals, and maybe a figurine and they also look great in a vignette.
