The Boho-Chic Interior Design Style is the absolute opposite of minimalism—textures and colors are intermingled and layered for an eye-catching, exotic look that’s bold yet laid-back. Moroccan influences are often seen in the look, most often when it comes to lighting and home accents such as ottomans and decorative pillows. Also known as Bohemian, the design style features lived-in pieces with a handmade feel. Check out the 8 Ways to Pull Off the Boho-Chic Interior Design Style for decorating your home in the Bohemian style.

A VARIETY OF TEXTURES. …

One thing the boho home never lacks is texture. Adding textures to a room can be done in so many ways. Think baskets, planters made of different materials, nature fiber rugs, wood furniture, and even stacks of books. In bohemianism, the saying goes “more is more”, so add a bunch of stuff you love!

8 Ways to Pull Off the Boho-Chic Interior

PRINTS & PATTERNS TAKE CENTER STAGE. …

While the method seems relatively simple in theory, in practice you might just find yourself struggling to pull it all together.  Mixing and matching patterns like a pro isn’t as easy as it may seem. With that, we turned to the spaces that take a maximalist approach to decorate with an eclectic slew of prints to help you get on your way to boho-chic living.

DON’T USE (TOO MUCH) BLACK. …

While there are no rules when it comes to Bohemian decorating, warm earthy colors are common, as are metallics and jewel tones. Think neutral colors with splashes of warm, bright colors thrown in. Whites, browns, and tans mixed with blues, greens, purples, oranges, reds, and yellows fit well in the boho scheme. Combining and layering colors is what makes this style unique.

PLANTS, PLANTS, PLANTS! …

If you’re someone who loves to fill your living space with earthy elements, eclectic decor, and as many plants as possible, a bohemian-style home is right up your alley. Plants are wonderful additions to every decor style but when it comes to plants for a bohemian interior, they are pretty much a necessity.

Low-Level Seating. …

The boho philosophy is all about kicking back, chilling out, and relaxing. Floor pillows, leather poufs, soft ottomans, and bean bag chairs are all great low-level seating options to have because they invite people to sit down and stay awhile.

You can find gorgeous leather poufs from Home Depot. They start at about $50. Among other Moroccan decor items, they sell hundreds of Moroccan ottoman floor pillows.

LAYER RUGS. …

Having texture in your space is imperative for a boho-chic atmosphere, but it also matters how you incorporate them. Layering textures can play a significant role in this. Placing one rug on top of another at a different angle, or even laying a chunky knit throw on your bed can make all the difference in adding extra comfort and interest.

BE ARTISTIC IN YOUR DESIGN. …

If this decorating style appeals to you, you probably already value the arts, so you’re well on your way. A goal of creating a boho-style space gives you a license to pile art books on the coffee table, frame album covers as wall art, or hang an eclectic collection of art prints on a gallery wall that stretches floor to ceiling. The results are often dazzling, such as in this example of the organized chaos of this blue living room designed by Dazey Den.

VINTAGE, HANDMADE, WICKER & MACRAME FURNISHINGS. …

Eclectic, vintage, and mixed, boho-style furniture can be in materials such as rattan or wood and include butterfly chairs, lounges, hanging chairs, and daybeds. Low-level seating is a must with upholstery that is rich and cozy. Throw in brightly colored and patterned poufs, throws, floor pillows, and wall hangings for finishing touches.
